Spectrum CEO Explores Value of Telecom Lifecycle Management in an Economic Recovery

By Susan J. Campbell  |  Senior Editor

Telecommunications is critical to the function of any successful business, and managing these expenses is becoming a priority for companies across industries. The main challenge is that many companies either do not have the skill set or the time to effectively manage every aspect of their telecommunication spending.

To take an inside look at this demand and an industry solution, TMCnet’s Erin Harrison spoke with Troy McCracken, CEO of telecom lifecycle management provider Spectrum

Now that the economy is showing signs of recovery, some wonder if there is a difference in demand for TEM. According to McCracken, there really hasn’t been a change. Instead, it is actually increasing as people are becoming more familiar with telecom lifecycle management. They are starting to recognize the long-term benefits of TEM.

When asked whether or not Obama administration policies are affecting business for Spectrum, McCracken noted that most TEM players are small businesses and with a lot of things that Obama has implemented, businesses are more concerned with taxes, payroll issues, etc. and they are trying to do more with less.

This can truly tax the small business, especially where payrolls are concerned. With many of the levies introduced, many small companies are worried about keeping people in place and being able to pay them enough to keep them as loyal employees.

As for the future of TEM, McCracken believes it is very bright. There has been a huge upspring, but the TEM provider has to be able to show value to the end user organization.

When hiring a TEM company, the organization is hiring a telecom expert as internal employees are not skilled or don’t have the time to manage telecom expense or contracts.

Even with the number of benefits Spectrum offers to the organization, there are still challenges. As McCracken noted, it isn’t on somebody’s radar screen as they believe they have to have it, but don’t really know what they have. Unless they know what they have, how much it costs and what they need, they can’t begin to start managing telecom.

This is where Spectrum can come in as a telecom lifecycle management provider, helping the organization to identify what they need, what they have, how much they are paying and the best way to streamline services and costs to get the most out of their telecommunications solutions.
