Telecom Lifecycle Management Provider Tackles Wins & Losses of 2009

By Erin Harrison  |  Senior Editor

While a number of companies have reported less than stellar results in 2009, those in the telecom expense management sector have seen continued growth as enterprises seek to gain better control of one of their top line item expenses.

Telecom lifecycle management providers – such as Cincinnati-based Spectrum, Inc. – can manage the complete telecom lifecycle, from benchmarking current services, service order management, asset management and expense management, invoice visibility and auditing, to customized analytical reporting of all wireless and wireline services.

In a recent TMCnet interview with Spectrum CEO Troy McCracken, he discussed the wins and losses of 2009 and what lies ahead for the company in the new year. Our full exchange follows:

TMCnet: How did your company perform this year? How close did you come to meeting your goals as you entered 2009?

TM: Two-thousand-and-nine was an unbelievable year for Spectrum. We continued to enhance our award-winning telecom expense management/telecom lifecycle management application and increased the number of our channel partners by over 300 percent. We also increased our revenue from the prior year. We look forward to continued success in 2010.

Q: What major product, services and partnership agreements did your company announce?

TM: We solidified partnerships with some very large VAR’s, through our leading channel program. We also released TrueVue v3.5, which included a full-featured customizable dashboard for both wireless and wireline services – not just a report called “Dashboard.”

TMCnet: At the start of 2009, the economy slowed to a deep recession. How did that affect your company’s performance? More specifically, what affect did it have on demand for your goods and services, if any?

TM: We actually did not see the effect until end of Q3 09. Until then, we were right on track to achieve our 2009 goals. In the latter part of Q3, we noticed that companies were taking longer to make decisions and in some cases pushed off the decision until 2010. This kept us short or our year-end goal.

TMCnet: With signs that the economy is pulling out of the recession, what are you expecting in 2010?

TM: Spectrum is expecting a very steady growth in 2010. Our strategy is to maintain slow-controlled growth within our end-user customer base. Our goal, unlike some of our competitors, is to make sure all the customers that choose to become a customer actually achieve the expected ROI from our TEM services.

We also look to continue to enhance TrueVue into the elite and most telecom centric TEM application. Our goal is to allow our customers to actually drive down in to the cost of the service rather than just presenting or regurgitating billing payment information. Our goal for TrueVue 4.0 is to allow them to drill down into the actual cost of the circuit, such as local loop, port, MNS, etc. This enhancement will allow true in-depth cost visibility rather than high level cost visibility.
