Telecom LifeCycle Management: Education Key in Achieving Business Goals

By Erin Harrison  |  Senior Editor

Since telecom expense management and telecom lifecycle management are still relatively new objectives for enterprises and SMBs, education in this era of ramping up cost-control efforts has become increasingly important for C-level executives and IT decision makers across industries.

“The educational piece is critical because there has to be a clear understanding between what the customer’s objective is and what the TLM solution really offers. Companies need to understand that this is not just buying telecom services. A comprehensive TLM solution impacts many different departments within the enterprise: IT, accounting, human resources, telecom, management, and several others” according to Trent McCracken, president of Spectrum Inc. “In addition, TLM providers offer a very customized solution, which often times is quite different than their competitor. There has to be a clear scope of what component of a telecom lifecycle management solution the company really is seeking in order to achieve their business goals.

TEM far exceeds what the term “expense” implies and impacts many key business critical functions such as IT, HR, vendor management and finance, with significant opportunities for small- and medium-sized businesses.

“We see a large opportunity at the SMB market. SMB companies are continually seeing the efficiencies gained from the enterprise companies effectively utilizing a comprehensive telecom lifecycle management solution. TrueVue, our award-winning TLM solution has already been customized to fit the SMB market, and it is being received very well,” McCracken added.

The industry’s association – the Telecom Expense Management Industry Association – announced this week that it is now offering educational webcasts for enterprises, government and other organizations. The webcasts will feature different members of the association, like Spectrum Inc., speaking on a range of topics which shall include information for organizations that are seeking to learn about telecom expense management or telecom lifecycle management solutions.

Some of the material that will be presented includes best practices for a successful TEM program; key performance indicators; standards and benchmarks; overcoming the challenges of international TEM programs; wireless and mobility management for smart phones, PDAs, and mobile computing; inventory management; financial management; and other subjects that will respond to areas that enterprises want to learn about.

The first webcast, “TEM 2.0: What You Need to Know about TEM,” will feature a primer on TEM with definitions that will provide a foundation for organizations, TEMIA (News - Alert) officials said.
